The Linux Users' Group of Davis is a 501(c)(7) non-profit computer club serving the Sacramento region, consisting of hundreds of people who share an interested in the Linux® operating system, Free & Open Source software and other related topics — both technical and non-technical.

Our goals are to advocate the use of Linux and Open Source, to educate the community on these software alternatives, and to support and provide a social network for local Linux users.

LUGOD holds regular meetings twice a month. On the first Tuesday of each month, we hold a social gathering at a local restaurant or café, and on the third Monday of each month we meet at the Davis Public Library to listen to informative presentations by guest speakers. (Day, time and location subject to change!)

We also hold other events and workshops and maintain a number of active mailing lists (some with over 200 subscribers), an IRC channel for live chatting, and communities on social networks (Facebook and LinkedIn).

Our meetings, events and membership, are free and open to the general public. Join us!

* User Conversations: Basic Internet Safety
Presented by
Ted Sternberg, Group

At this month's meeting, a special election for club secretary will be held, and then member Ted Sternberg will be starting a discussion on the foundations of basic internet safety that everyone should be familiar with. You'll find answers to questions such as what the lock icon in your browser means, what https is, what security exception warnings are all about, what incognito mode really does, and why your email is probably not as secure as you think. Come prepared with your own questions and contribute your own experiences in internet safety to this group discussion that is open to LUGOD members, guests, and the public! Geek

  Listserv Issues
Posted Fri. July 13, 6:00pm
Apologies to members who are subscribed to our mailing lists, including vox and vox-announce, if you receive either no emails or duplicate email from the lists. Our listserv IP address was apparently banned by Microsoft/Office 365 sometime in the past month, resulting in a ton of list emails bouncing to all our members whose email services are MS-based. This includes all @ucdavis.edu, @outlook.com, and many others. An application to de-list our IP has been made.
Nominations For Secretary Are Open
Posted Thu. June 21, 5:00pm
Our long-time Typescript officer (club secretary) Kenny has announced that he will be stepping down in July, so nominations for the position are officially open. You may nominate yourself or someone else and no second is required! If you are interested or would like to know more, contact typescript@lugod.org (or any other club officer) with your questions or your nomination. Thanks again for all that you've done for us, Kenny, and congratulations on completing your education.
Website Design Meeting
Posted Tue. April 17, 2:00pm
Thanks to everyone who came out last night to see how the LUGOD website works and shared their thoughts and experiences on redesign. If you'd like to participate in the process, chime in on the Vox mailing list, join us on IRC and chat, email an officer directly, or visit us on Github.
