REVOLUTION OS Screening, January 20, 2003
The Linux Users' Group of Davis

celebrated their four-year anniversary on
Monday, January 20, 2003.
Along with free food and cake, give-aways and raffles, LUGOD
screened the independent film "REVOLUTION OS," which tells the
tale of computer programmers who rebelled against Microsoft's dominance
and created the Linux computer operating system and the 'Open Source'
movement.
The film included interviews with key personalities from the
Linux and Open Source communities, including
Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux operating system;
Richard Stallman, founder of GNU and the
Free Software Foundation; and Brian Behlendorf, a developer
of "Apache," the world's most popular web serving software.
Raffle and give-away items included:
- CodeWeavers'
"CrossOver Plugin" and "CrossOver Office", which allow Linux
users install and run Windows-only software such as Microsoft Office
and Apple Quicktime, without resorting to dual-booting or emulation.
- Various books from
O'Reilly & Associates.
