2007.09.17 Meeting Notes

Location

Davis Public Library

Project Reports

  • Demo — LUGOD held a successful Linux demo at the Davis Farmer's Market on Sat. Sept. 15th as part of international Software Freedom Day. Alex Mandel, Nick Schmalenberger, Grace, Henry House and Bill Kendrick volunteered. We handed out event flyers, informational handouts, and Knoppix, Ubuntu and other discs.

  • Installfests — The next Installfest will be some time in October. Contact if@lugod.org or post to the 'vox-if' mailing list for more information, or if you'd like to volunteer for future IFs.

  • LERT — Henry helped two people recently. (No details given.) As usual, send email to lert@lugod.org if you need emergency Linux help.

  • Library — Due to low usage, we'll be discussing donating our library of materials to the Davis Public Library, and closing down our lending library. Send email to librarian@lugod.org if you have any comments, or would like to borrow any books. (See www.lugod.org/library )

Other Business

  • Financial Report — $??.?? in voluntary dues were collected.

We discussed possibly setting up a PayPal account to receive donations.

Presentation

  • Jeff Shaw and Darrick Servis from KDRT 105.1FM in Davis talked about the local low-power community radio station, and how they use Linux and Rivendell (open source radio automation software) at the station. LUGOD members are invited to come to the DCTV/KDRT office to check things out, and volunteers are welcome.
