Running unopposed, and with no objections from the attending members,
LUGOD's officers have been elected. Our current set of officers continue in
their positions: Henry House as 'root' (president) and '/dev/null'
(treasurer), Bill Kendrick as 'sys' (vice president) and
Nick Schmalenberger as 'typescript' (secretary).

$200 Ubuntu Linux PC available at Wal-Mart

On our 'vox' mailing list, Scot directed us to
a Wired
blog post about the Everex TC2502 Green gPC, a $200 PC that comes with
Ubuntu Linux pre-installed.
(The blog mentions it's available at the Woodland Wal*Mart, but their own site
only shows Fairfield, and that it's currently out of stock.)

We've reserved Room 1127 of Kemper Hall at UC Davis
(which is adjacent to 1131, where we typically hold them).
Additionally, we are tentatively planning another Installfest this month,

Working with Valley Oak Charter

Valley Oak Elementary school in Davis is being closed by the district, but
there are hopes to turn it into a
charter school,
with a technology
magnet. At Farmer's Market, during
Software Freedom Day, LUGOD members spoke with
volunteers from Valley Oak Charter
about Linux and Open Source, and they're very interested in the
topic. If you'd like to be involved in discussions -- we may simply provide
information and direction, or we may end up volunteering time and/or
equipment (as we did with Davis High School in the past) -- please
subscribe to our 'vox-outreach'
mailing list and help start the discussion.

Software Freedom Day a success

Nick Schmalenberger, Grace, Alex Mandel, Henry House and Bill Kendrick
assembled a Linux demonstration booth at the Davis Farmers Market yesterday as
part of international Software Freedom Day. We handed out lots of info. on
Linux, LUGOD and Open Source, flyers for our upcoming meetings, and
Knoppix and Ubuntu CDs, as well as answered questions and chatted with many
passers-by.

next month, to participate in a multi-LUG booth being organized by
Jim Stockford of SF-LUG.

Canonical is about to release Ubuntu and Kubuntu 7.04, meaning waits for
Ship-It discs can be up to 10 weeks. So if you can help LUGOD by burning
copies of Linux distros, TheOpenCD, and other useful discs to give out at our
Whole Earth Festival and
Government Technology Conference booths,
please do so! (Discuss over on
'vox-outreach'.)

Government Technology Conference in May.
