What is "Source Code?"

Source code is a set of instructions (which can be written, read and understood by humans) that tell a computer how to do a particular thing.

Most application programs for Windows and Macintoshes do not come with their source code. They come only with the files containing special instructions that the computer understands (which were "translated" from the source code).

Most Linux applications do come with source code.
