2008.11.17 Meeting Notes

Davis Public Library

Project Reports

  • Installfests — The last IF was November 8th. Alex was not around to report the results. Tony Cratz said that the next IF will be in early December, if it happens.
  • LERT — No news.
  • Library — Nick Schmalenberger and Henry House suggest bringing the contents of the Lending Library to our 10th anniversary meeting as give-aways, and if anything is left, then worry about donating it.

Other Business

  • News — Next social gathering is Dec. 2nd. Next meeting will be "GoGrid" cloud computing company on Dec. 15th. LUGOD 10th anniversary meeting will be Jan. 19th. See www.lugod.org/10 for more, and www.lugod.org/10/planning for details on event planning. Non-Profit Software Summit is taking place in Oakland through Wednesday. OpenMoko talk at BALUG in San Francisco tomorrow.
  • LUGOD Elections — LUGOD officer nominations closed today. Running unopposed, Bill Kendrick remains root (president), Nick Schmalenberger remains typescript (secretary) and Henry House remains /dev/null (treasurer). Noone was nominated for sys (vice president), so Bill Kendrick continues to hold that position, but strongly encourages someone to step forward to fill this role.
  • Domain Name — LUGOD.org domain expires in February. Domain Discover appears to be our registrar. Bill Kendrick will look into renewing. It should cost about $20/yr.
  • Financial Report — $59.80 in voluntary dues were collected.

  • Cathy Malmrose, CEO of ZaReason, Inc., a Berkeley company that produces Linux-based laptops and desktops, discussed the history of her company, and what it's been like to work in "Linux land".
  • Presentation slides (11MB OpenOffice.org Impress ODP)
