2000.05.15 Meeting Notes

  • Motif has been released as source code under a non-free license (restricted use).
  • In Sunday's Sacramento Bee newspaper, James Glick's take on the ILOVEYOU virus was that it used a feature in MicroSoft software that MS put there to control the desktop. Ironically, this was originally written for Slate (Microsoft's magazine).

Committee Reports

  • Demo - Henry House is our new public outreach officer and Demo Committee chair. VA Linux is providing LUGOD a Pentium III computer and monitor (equipped with "Quake 3!") on an extended loan. It should arrive in a few weeks.

  • Installfest - The next IF will be this Sunday, May 21, from 10am to 6pm, Room 1131, Engineering Unit II, UC Davis. Evan Scarisbrick will be in charge, since Pete will be out of town.
