I have a buddy who has comcast cable internet, and he claims that he can just 
staticly define his IP and it works just fine. (They also will have a hard 
time figureing out who had the IP :-) ) YMMV.

This only works if normal service is DHCP. If it is dhcp, as long as you 
remain in contact with the DHCP server, your IP won't change anyway. If it's 
PPPoE, you're SOL.
