Title: LUGWAR (it's a concept -someone else can run with it :)

It's LUG WAR!!!!!

You are a member of a LUG and your mission is to acquire members and MS converts any way posible!  Establish alliances and compete for resources with other LUGs and infiltrate local MS User Groups and convert them!

All LUG groups start with 5 members who are active.  When you acquire new members there is always a chance that the new member will have a useful 'skill'.  You can also 'train' new members in 'The Linux Way(TLW)' thus increasing the overall 'skill' of your LUG and helping you increase your 'activity' score, but watch out for BURNOUT or failure where you lose members.  Skills are scripting languages, SysAdmin, promotion, graphics, security, and moderators.  But watch out, some members have STRONG opinions that may leads to list flame wars which can have an effect on productivity and scare new converts before TLW assimilation is complete .......

Other ways to attract new members is to have Install FESTs to attract MS Converts.  The higher your member 'activity' level, the higher the FEST 'skill' and the better your chance of obtaining coveted CONVERTS.

You can also lure speakers by asking, bargaining, begging, pleading or kidnapping of spouses (generally by cornering them at conferences and droning on until they beg their spouse to speak at your group so you'll let them go :).  -BUT watch out, other LUG's competing for resources may try and intercept your speakers and use them up before They speak at your group

TIPS
Choose your name carefully, as it can have an impact on who will speak at your group
.... Will it be LUG or GnuLUG?  Will you advocate VI or EMACS?

Reschedule meetings to obtain first speaker bonus!

You will start small, you will first need to obtain a name, start a website and find a regular meeting space.

Beware of the occassional danger of losing your CONVERTS to BSD or OS X if they get distracted and wander off, so keep up that steady supply of speakers.

Depending on where you start, you gain bonuses.  Pick a University town and you will have high activity rates but the cost is an initial slow down in the summer.  You can counter act this by expansion and stability.

If, in high population areas, you may find your self competing with other LUG's or alternate OS groups for resources.  Lower population area's may find growth slower.

Don't forget the occassional FUD factor that will cause all your recent CONVERTS to bolt.

Will you establish SIG's or committees?

Will you hold Rally's or attend local harvest festivals?

You can raise your groups 'status' by attracting Linux luminaries to participate on email lists and more by getting them to ATTEND meetings!!!!

I was thinking of a turn's based game. :)
Ah hell…. I ran out of ideas and it’s late.
Night all.
