Systems Administration Specialist 

General Statement of Duties:  Responsible for installation, configuration and 
maintenance of server OS's, services, and server-network systems. This 
includes server prototyping, monitoring, logs, documentation, and upgrading 
of the OS, services, and programs.  

Supervision: IT Manager.  

Job Duties: 

1. Physical build and configuration of servers including updating, backups, 
filtering, and required network structures. 

2. Implementing server maintenance and replacement schedules and practices 

3. Assessment of scaling feasibility, testing and development of new systems 
and services 

4. Develops and maintains server logs, monitoring systems and documentation 
of all builds, configurations and routines 

5. Works with staff and vendors as needed to implement above 

6. Assists in long range IS planning 

7. Maintains system integrity via direct and remote monitoring structures 

8. Interfaces with IP service provider(s) to maintain internet connectivity 

Knowledge, skills and abilities: 
	All phases of servers, OS's, systems development, and related methodologies 
	Client server theory and practice 
	TCP/IP models and protocols 
	IP monitoring theory and practice 
	DNS/NAS theory and practice 
	Linux, Win95-XP, Macintosh 7.5-X 
	Networking theory and practice 
	Perl, PHP, Python, Shell Scripting, C++, Javascript, Java, HTML, DHTML 	
		MySQL, PostgreSQL 
	Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other

Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a 
major/minor in computer science, or any combination of education and
