[vox] linux in benecia -- lunch with lugod
hi all,
doug barbieri and i are driving down to benecia to help this person.
essentially, he's trying to convert a microsoft only real estate office
into a linux only real estate office. it's a good piece of advocacy.
anyway, this is worth $$$ to lugod, and i figure maybe we can make a
road trip out of it. after helping this dude, we can all hang out for
lunch afterwards and shoot the breeze.
if anyone is interested, email me to let me know. we'll carravan
together. :) don't be shy; everyone is invited.
pete

Thank you for the e-mail. Believe me, I do know that it is a volunteer
effort and it is a great effort at that! Let me try rephrasing the
request. Is there a list of consultants that would be willing to be paid
to help get my little system up and working smoothly?
Attending another Installfest is an option certainly. But I think the set
up timing is getting a little more urgent. My network is in disarray.
I am very open to suggestions. As background, I am a commercial real
estate appraiser. I am thinking seriously about writing an article for our
professional journal regarding the trials and tribulations of an appraiser
attempting the change from Microsoft to Linux.
As an example, last week I purchased the Wordperfect office suite for
Linux. It turns out that the product is missing several key files (or they
are outdated) needed for the latest version of Linux. It took several
calls to Corel and downloading these files to get it operating. Now it
operates in the root directory but not in my desktop/directory.
It is all quite a challenge - and I will see this through. But I am also
running a business and I need it to work now. Consultants?
Thanks again,
Bradford MacLane
