What does your "mgetty.config" look like? It looks like you need to add a
"fax-owner" option to specify the user that will receive the fax, and
without that option it defaults to a username specified at compile time
(but who knows what that is! -- check the debian manual?) More info on

There's probably more options to be concerned about, but I'm not sure what
else -- my experience with mgetty is unfortunately limited primarily to
working with voice modems.
