Don't you wanna check that a non-digit follows the numbers, since you
wanna rule out numbers like 17999, which is obviously out of range...?

 (^50[1-9]|^5[1-9][0-9]|^[6-9][0-9]{2}|^1[0-7][0-9]{2})([^0-9]|$)
                                                       ^^^^^^^^^^ this
