[vox-tech] ps2 mouse not working



My k6-450 died a couple of weeks ago, so I ordered an Athlon 2400+/ASUS
A7S333 mobo/box/power supply and it arrived today. I plugged in the old
hard disks, floppy, cdrw, monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and everything
worked except for the mouse. I did discover a cached googlepage that said
this motherboard's SIS745 chipset has dangerously incomplete support in
the stock kernel, and recommended running with dma off until 2.4.21ac2
could be installed to avoid potential IDE data loss.  I did that this
evening, thereby also getting alsa and lm-sensors working.

Firing up knoppix, the mouse works fine, so it isn't mouse or ps2 port
hardware, or bios configuration.  However, /proc/interrupts doesn't show
irq 12 allocated from within either the standard debian kernel I had
installed before, or the custom ac2 kernel I just compiled. dmesg says
'Detected PS/2 mouse port', and /proc/misc shows an entry for psaux.
/dev/psaux is still crw------- 1 root root 10, 1.
/etc/conf/gpm.conf still refers to /dev/psaux (the mouse is the same one
I used to use with this hard disk).

I noticed some strange stuff about IO-APIC in /var/log/messages
(attached), so I tried "pci=noapic" and "apic=off", but neither of these
helped.

Any suggestions?
