doubt it.   unix isn't in the habit of dropping case (although keywords in
XF86Config* are case insensitive).   *certainly* filenames are case
sensitive!   which is exactly what you're dealing with.

my guess is is that they pulled a "XF86Config vs XF86Config-4".  in other
words, libtype1.a was a module that X 3.3.* used.

it's a damned good guess that modules had to be rewritten for 4.0.  so to
avoid confusion they might have renamed the module to distinguish it from the
3.3 counterpart.

total guess on my part, but it does sound plausible!   :)
