This is what I do

A:link {
        color: #5B90E6;
        text-decoration: none;
A:visited {
        color: #9B90b6;
        text-decoration: none;
A:active {
        color: #ff90b6;
        background-color: #ffffff;
        text-decoration: underline;
A:hover {
        text-decoration: underline;

That goes into a file, style.css and I refer to that in the html doc
<LINK REL="StyleSheet" HREF="/style.css" TYPE="text/css" MEDIA="screen">

Then all my links are those colors.
