Position Title : UNIX System Admin with VCS (Linux)

Responsible for
operationally excellent management of Unix systems and
SAN infrastructure required to keep eBay’s web properties running in a
24x7x52 environment. Plans, installs, tests, and maintains systems and storage
arrays. Required to contribute to the selection, design, and
implementation of hardware, Operating Systems, and technical solutions to solve
business problems. Includes maintaining and improving on eBay’s
strict technical standards as it relates to performance and availability.
Ability to serve as a technical lead for project implementation, drive
technical site escalations to conclusion and provide a leadership example to
junior staff members.
Solid, demonstrable problem solving ability. Minimum 8
years Unix Systems Administration experience; Two of those years should be at a
senior /mentoring level. Solaris experience mandatory; expertise Preferred.
Prefer those with internet service experience, experience Managing/Tuning Database
servers, and those who have experience in more than one Unix Variant.
Advanced Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) experience required; and VERITAS Cluster
Server (VCS) or other High-availability service experience preferred. Ability
to troubleshoot and diagnose complex i/o issues in one
of the worlds largest SAN environments. Hitachi/Brocade experience preferred.
Individual must be able to articulate advanced technical topics (e.g. process
scheduling, kernel internals, TCP/IP communications at all levels). Shell
scripting (Bourne, Perl, Awk, Sed, etc.) prowess. Ability to work in
high-pressured but highly structured, customer oriented environment.
Familiar with all phases of user administration including
user support and monitoring (Nagios a plus). Support
and troubleshooting of customer impacting issues. Other desired skills
include:
• Solid Linux & Solaris background.
• Strong shell scripting skills ( Tk, Perl,
Bash, etc.)
• Apache configuration/maintenance
• SAN storage (Brocade/HDS)
• Experience with NetApp file servers a plus
• Bind 9
• Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing
environment concepts.
• Understanding of DNS and basic routing concepts.
• Knowledge of cfengine/big brother a plus.
• Ability to do minimal debugging of C programs
