Maybe something in your setup can't handle UTF-8; or perhaps certain
characters of UTF-8 (that is, if the e-mail actually used any such
characters).

My mutt, BTW, is 1.2.5.1i. The error looks more like a problem with
GNU's iconv library than with Mutt: might want to get your glibc
checked.
