The VI Editor
presented by: Verbus M. Counts, Advanced Open Source Solutions, Roseville CA
Vi ("vee eye") is a visual text editor which was developed by Bill Joy in
1976. He took the sources of 'ed' and 'ex', two line-based editors for Unix,
and created Vi. Since then, it has evolved into many different versions for
many, many platforms. Vi is one of the core tools that all sysadmins should
feel comfortable using, as it should be available on all Unix systems (unlike
other popular Unix editors).
Verbus M. Counts has over 30 years experience in computer software
development, ranging from teaching FORTRAN, COBOL and assembly language
on UNIVAC 1100's to adding 16-bit international character support to
operating systems at Hewlett Packard.
